Sandvika

Sandvika

Sandvika might not be the most famous city in Norway, but this lively town just a short trip west of Oslo has a charm all of its own. Sitting where the Sandvikselva river meets the calm waters of the Sandviksfjord, it manages to feel both connected to the excitement of a big city and peacefully close to nature at the same time. Anglers love this river for good reason — it is among the very best spots in the whole Oslo region for catching sea trout.

What really makes Sandvika stand out is its surprising mix of culture, nature, and urban energy. A waterfront stroll reveals fjord views, cosy cafés, and fresh Norwegian air, while one of Norway’s most impressive modern art museums sits right by the water, founded by an Olympic ice-skating legend named Sonja Henie.

For a town of its size, Sandvika punches well above its weight. There is always something going on, whether that is a theatre show, a concert, or simply exploring the riverside paths that wind through the heart of town.
