Campinas

Campinas is a city that loves two things above almost anything else: big ideas and good fun. Tucked inside São Paulo state in Brazil, it buzzes with scientists, students, and inventors, because some of the country’s most exciting research happens right here. Walk through the sprawling university campus and you might pass gardens, museums, and laboratories all in the same afternoon.

But Campinas has deep roots too. Back in the 1800s, coffee made this city seriously wealthy, and the grand cathedral, elegant theatre, and leafy boulevards built during that era still give the place a confident, historic charm. The theatre honours Carlos Gomes, a brilliant composer who grew up right here on these streets.

Then there is the wilder side of the city — ancient jequitibá trees standing tall in an urban forest, native animals at a little zoo, and families laughing on pedal boats across a sparkling lake. Campinas somehow manages to feel both brilliantly modern and wonderfully timeless all at once.
