Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg is one of the most unique cities on Earth — and that’s not an exaggeration. Sitting right where the Ural Mountains divide two massive continents, this Russian city is literally where Europe meets Asia. Just outside the city, a tall obelisk marks the exact boundary line, and visitors travel from all over the world just to experience the thrill of straddling two continents at once.

The city itself has a fascinating mix of history and energy. The golden domes of the Church on the Blood catch the sunlight and draw your eye across the skyline, while the ancient Plotinka Dam sits peacefully beside river parks where locals gather to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Yekaterinburg takes its history seriously, and the city museum brings the whole remarkable story of the Ural region to life.

If you love rocks and crystals, this place will blow your mind. The Ural Mountains are packed with spectacular gemstones, and the mineralogical museum here displays some of the most dazzling crystals you’ll ever see anywhere.
