Helsingborg

Helsingborg

Helsingborg is a lively Swedish city with one foot in history and one eye on the horizon — literally! Perched at an incredibly narrow stretch of water, it sits closer to Denmark than most cities get to their nearest neighbour, and the view across the glittering strait is something you simply have to see to believe. Climb the ancient Kärnan Tower, the last proud remnant of a mighty medieval castle, and on a clear day Denmark appears so close it almost feels within reach.

But Helsingborg is far more than a ferry crossing. It bursts with culture, from a striking modern arts centre on the harbour to a beautiful concert hall filled with live music. Come spring, the royal gardens at Sofiero Palace explode with thousands of rhododendrons in every shade of pink and purple imaginable. And if you love history, Fredriksdal open-air museum lets you step back in time and discover how Swedes lived long ago. There is always something here to spark your curiosity!

Quick fact

Fun fact

On a clear day you can see Denmark so clearly from Helsingborg that it looks close enough to swim to — and some very brave people actually have!
